Getting Here

Birdsville is located on the edge of the Simpson Desert, in the south-western corner of Queensland. We are easily accessible from Adelaide and Brisbane and travellers from other states can also reach us after a slightly longer, but extremely rewarding journey. No matter where you’re travelling from, there’s plenty of spectacular scenery, charismatic outback towns and historic sights to check out along the way. See our routes page for some of our suggestions of must-sees to add to your outback travel itinerary.

As you can see on the map of Australia on the right, Birdsville is far from any major highways. There are a number of well-maintained tracks you can take to reach us though, including the iconic Birdsville track, which runs between Birdsville and Marree. Most tracks are suitable for camper trailers and caravans most of the year. However, be sure to check the road conditions before you decide on your route as well as along the way as they can change instantly.
